Get Batrek’s Childhood Back

Batrek was a normal kid from sunny southern Egypt, who ran around with high energy, joked and played with his friends at school and enjoyed all the joys that come from a childhood surrounded by a loving family. Sadly, over the last few years, Batrek has seen all of the joys of his childhood drop away one by one. He has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare genetic disease that causes the muscles in the body to become weak and damaged over time until it affects the muscles that help movement and breathing.  At only 9 years old, Batrek can no longer walk or make any movements by himself and he must be assisted in all his daily activities. He bravely goes to school and everywhere else in a wheelchair. Frantic with worry, Batrek’s father brought him to the US to see specialists at the Kennedy Krieger Institute where experts offered hope - but at a very high price. The latest cutting-edge treatments cost $600,000, well beyond the means of his family in rural Egypt. Batrek’s dad has already sold the family farm to cover the costs of travelling to the US and is appealing for help to raise funds to treat Batrek and help save his childhood and his life.
