In 2014, our beloved Jennifer began her journey to start her family through the adoption process. After doing much research into various programs, and several months, she completed her application for the Ethiopia program knowing that it could take over a year to match her with a baby.
In February, 2017, she was matched to Baby L!! Two months after being matched, she flew to Ethiopia to meet Baby L in Addis. Needless to say, Baby L stole her heart right away. Upon her return to the US, she was quickly met with heartbreaking news that there was an official suspension of all Ethiopian adoptions by the Ethiopian government. After receiving this news, our relentless Jennifer, lobbied Congress, her local Senators and sought out all possible avenues to ensure that she would still be able to bring Baby L home by the end of the year.
In August, 2017, after spending a month of daily visits with Baby L in Addis, Jennifer passed the US Embassy investigation. Two months later, her case was submitted to court in Ethiopia. In November, she submitted to the Ministry of Women's and Children's Affairs in Ethiopia only to find out that Ethiopia decided to completely end international adoptions with the exception of 150 families who had already reached the Embassy. Thankfully, Jennifer and Baby L were one of these families!
Due to the initial suspension and now the impending closure of the Ethiopia International Adoption program, the system has been running inconsistently at best, leaving many cases in limbo with little information being provided to families. They have been requesting additional documentation, refusing to process cases for extended periods of time, all of which has prolonged the process and increased already anticipated monthly costs.
With all of the up and downs and news that Jennifer has received throughout this process, her adoption costs have greatly exceeded what she was initially expecting.
We are raising money to help her offset these additional costs and there is no one more deserving than our extraordinary loving and kind Jennifer!! She will use this money for airfare for her and Baby L to get home, hotel, transportation and other needs while in Ethiopia as soon as she receives her court date there. Due to the inconsistencies of the process, the length of her stay in Addis, once she does go, will be indefinite. She'll do all she can to can get her home as soon as possible. She will also use this money to cover health care costs for Baby L until she can get home. Join us, if you can, in supporting Jennifer to bring Baby L home.
