Please help my Aunt, Audrey.
She awoke to the smell of smoke around 9.30am on January 24 in the UK where she lives. Her greatest fear has always been fire. Audrey has lived on the top floor of Hambledon House for the past few years. She knew from the direction of the smoke that it was not safe to go down the staircase so she grabbed her kitten, Mouse, and climbed onto the balcony to get to the roof. Her quick thinking has most likely saved her life as the fire was reported to have started from a dryer in the laundry on the 3rd floor directly under Audrey's room.
She had no phone so she couldn't call the Police or Fire Brigade, so she started screaming for help. Thankfully, a neighbour rushed over with a ladder but as she attempted to get onto the ladder the gutters gave way and she fell 12 feet to the ground. She is extremely lucky to be alive.
Audrey has sustained numerous injuries including a shattered elbow, 4 cracked ribs, multiple cuts and bruises and a fractured coccyx. She has had surgery today to repair her elbox and has had stitches on her thigh where she had a large cut as a result of the fall. Doctors said she may require further surgery but we are very grateful she is alive.
All she was able to grab before escaping to the roof was her kitten. So sadly she has lost everything. Her home, her clothes, her photos, all her belongings are gone.
We want to try and help her get back on her feet as soon as possible. Doctors have said her physical recovery will take time which means she won't be able to return to work any time soon so she needs as much help as possible.
Once released from hospital Audrey will need to find a new place to live and although the sentimental things can never be replaced, we would love to try and help her get setup with some basics like clothes, household items, furniture etc. She will also have hospital and medicals bills as a result of this terrible experience.
Audrey is an extremely generous and fun loving person so any amount you can donate to assist her is appreciated. We are so grateful she is alive and want her new start to be bright.
Please help with whatever you can - thank you. Jaimie
