Hello!!
As most of you know I am HUGE animal lover and an advocate for all things conservation.
I have recently been accepted to travel to South Africa for 10 weeks towards the end of next year to work on 3 different conservation projects with a wide range of different animals.
The first location is the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary. It is the largest rhino rehabilitation centre in the world, specialising in the care and rehabilitation of infant rhinos that have been orphaned by poaching.
I will then travel to Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Moholoholo work to take in injured, orphaned, and abandoned wildlife from the surrounding area and nurse them back to health and care for them, before hopefully releasing them back into their natural habitat. It is the home to a range of predators such as lions, leopards, cheetah, African Hunting Dog and both spotted and brown hyena. They also host a variety of antelope and bird of prey species, as well as species such as honey badgers and warthogs.
To finish the trip, I will then go to The Phinda Project. Whilst I'm there, I will go out on game drives in the reserve and assist with observing and monitoring the wildlife, focusing mostly on the rhinos, elephants and predators. This will help build up a database to protect the species within the reserve. Phinda is a leader in rhino anti-poaching. They have been incredibly successful, so much so that they are able to relocate rhinos from Phinda to other parts of Africa.
The funds raised from this GoFundMe page will go towards paying for me to travel to and live in South Africa for the duration of this trip.
I will be taking part in different fundraisers, and if you have any ideas of what you think I should do, or something you'd like to see me do, let me know!! I'm quite unimaginative and somehow I don't think a bake sale is going to cover the cost!!
I understand that this is a big target, so I will be incredibly grateful for any contribution towards me going to South Africa. From a selfish point of view, this is my dream. This project was made for me!! But also the money will help fund vital work going on in the country to protect different species and conserve their habitats.
I will also be contributing to the trip from my salary each month, so please don't think this is me asking for others to pay for my experience!!
I don't want future generations to only be able to see elephants, hunting dogs, rhinos etc in books or museums. It would break my heart for them to become a thing of the past. So please, every little helps and myself and all the animals will be eternally grateful.
