Get Alex home for Christmas

PLEASE HELP OUR DIY SOS

I desperately need to turn my downstairs loo into a little wet room for Alex. The last week has been hell and he’s about to go to Dorothy House as it’s not safe for him at home right now, but we all want him here and he wants to be at home for what is going to be his last Christmas. 

Literally nothing about #MND is easy but we’re hitting the really tough stuff now. To have him with us in this last phase of his life, with dignity, I’m moving the whole house upside down. I just want him to die at home, with his family, with dignity.

He is currently restricted to his bed and can no longer use the stairlift as he cannot breathe on it.   This means he has no accessible washing facilities so we need to turn our downstairs loo into a wetroom.

I tried to get this wetroom done this summer but nobody would even quote for the job. It’s small and great tradesmen are busy, it’s not glamorous or sexy and it’s probably a little tricky. But, it would make a huge difference for our family and for a man whose life is being so very cruelly torn from him. 

This is a crazy urgent job, and we need two things.  One is a contractor who can take on the project.  We’ve got a couple of offers, but if you know anyone who can manage the whole thing, we’d still love to hear from them.  The other is some money to pay for it.  There are grants available out there, but right now I just don’t have the time to apply.

So please can you help us in any way you can it will make such a difference to Alex and to all of us right now.  And any money that we don’t use will go to Motor Neurone research, to try to stop other people from having to go through this.
