Get 10th Graders to the Holocaust Museum

This semester, during our unit on "Stories of the Real World," my 10th Grade English students have been studying Elie Wiesel's Night. They've been moved by this powerful book, but many of them had never heard of the Holocaust before, and most of those who had heard of it knew very little about it.

For that reason, I'm planning a trip for all 200 10th Grade students to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC later this month. To make this trip happen, we need to pay for buses for all the students and chaperones, but many of our families are not able to contribute financially.

It's so important that young people (especially at a school like ours which is over 90% Black and Brown and has hardly any Jewish students) are given the opportunity to learn about the Holocaust. As we navigate resurgent antisemitism, and the challenge of continuing Holocaust education without the testimony of living survivors, I'm committed to doing everything I can to provide accessible and appropriate Holocaust education for my students.
