The community of moshav Mevo Modi'in suffered a tremendous tragedy on 5/23 when a fire destroyed the vast majority of the neighborhood. Mordi and Mimi Gess, Abby Rocker's parents (Josh Rocker's in-laws), were forced to evacuate with the rest of the moshav inhabitants. Buildings were completely destroyed or damaged enough that they are considered structurally unsound. The entire infrastructure of the community has been destroyed- no water, no sewage, no electricity. Luckily, the contents of Mordi and Mimi's home can be salvaged, but they do not have a home or a community to return to. It may take years before they can return to the moshav. We are asking people to assist so that Mordi and Mimi can get through the rebuilding period and then hopefully be blessed with a permanent home once again. We are in daily contact with Mordi and Mimi and they are extremely appreciative of all the support that keeps coming in. Currently all of the residents of the moshav have been living in a dormitory in a yeshiva 25 minutes away. Thankfully it provides shelter, but it is only temporary. Future living arrangements have not been fully formulated at this time. Funds will be used for day to day expenses while in temporary housing, replacing damaged equipment and for whatever future payments will be necessary for their eventual home (rent/mortgage/?) The funds will be withdrawn directly into Mimi's bank account so there are no 3rd parties involved.
