Amanda and Gerardo's house was seriously damaged during the earthquake in Mexico City on 19th September 2017.
Their family and friends in Mexico have been very supportive. They have coordinated themselves to buy materials and tools to prevent the building from collapsing, to bring them food, to keep an eye on their children, to stay in touch with them and make sure that they are not alone through these stressful times. Gerry and Amanda have also been directly touched by the amazing solidarity and empathy shown by strangers who have been working along their side non-stop since Tuesday to do everything possible to prevent their home from being lost.
Hopefully, Gerardo and Amanda’s house will be recovered, but even so there will be for sure expenses that weren’t planned. They will possibly need to rent a temporal place to live, buy new furniture, hire a solicitor, buy further construction materials, pay a professional construction firm, and all those expenses that will go beyond the initial moment of shock and that will help them to get back on their feet.
They have many friends around the world who want them to know that they won’t go alone through this.
I am one of those many friends abroad, who feels useless just looking from the distance. I have known them for nearly 12 years, our children are very close in age, and most recently, Amanda and I have embarked on an adventure to bring English books closer to the children in Mexico.
I have created the account but behind this fundraising effort are all their colleagues from the British Embassy and British Council.
Once the goal is reached I will withdraw the funds and transfer them directly to Gerardo's bank account in Mexico.

Knowing them, I am certain that they will reject any direct offer from their friends as individuals, but if we support as a group the chances of being rejected are smaller.
