THE HISTORY OF SYNTHETIC AMERICAN

On Halloween, 1993, Synthetic American screened "Fred Jenkins' Flemula" on the local public access channel in Dover, MA.  Using some creative filmmaking techniques (especially for high school juniors), it went on to win honorable mention in the county cable awards, and to be a Halloween-night staple for many years on Dover Cable.

Over the years, Synthetic American's talented crew began to grow, producing a total of 7 films since 1992.  The most recent production, "Murder FM ", is notable for being one of the last films shot on Kodachrome motion picture stock.

In addition to the Synthetic American films, we recently completed a more serious, award-winning short film called "Human ", which has been screened in several film festivals.

GEORGI PORGI PUDDING & SPY

2018 marks the 25th anniversary of Synthetic American's first film, and as such, we are making a special film entitled "Georgi Porgi, Pudding & Spy."  Filmed on a state-of-the-art Canon C200, this adventure-comedy takes place in the 1970s and 80s, with a wide variety of scenic locations.

This new production will be a walk down memory lane, particularly for Dover-Sherborn graduates.  It also (very loosely) borrows elements from a part of Cold War history that is rarely talked about - the ill-fated "Astrospy" program.  These Astrospies would have circled the Earth in satellites, monitoring other countries 24 hours a day.  Coincidentally, since starting the film, we discovered that the program had some local connections to Bedford, MA!

WHERE PRODUCTION STANDS RIGHT NOW

Production has been entirely self-financed so far, and is about 2/3 of the way through principal photography.  While many of the major scenes are completed, we need funds to finish the outer-space scenes, special effects, and the original score, for which we intended to use a small orchestra).

Any funds generated with this campaign will go towards the following within the next few months:

• Film score ($7000)
• Costume rentals, purchases. ($500)
• Green screen studio rental for miniatures and astronaut scenes ($2000)
• Spaceship set construction ($800)
• Miniature construction ($300)
• Post-production ($2000)
• Hard drives / media (Canon raw movie files are gigantic) ($500)

WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE FILM?

I expect this to be Synthetic American's finest production.  It will be entered into as many film festivals as possible, and, with a little luck, receive distribution!

WHAT IT MEANS TO ME

This group has been making films together for a very long time, so this is a labor of love for all involved.  Even if you can only donate a couple dollars, we will be forever grateful for the help in becoming a part of film history!
