Help fund my last semester in Dakar

Donation protected
My name is Georgia Collins and I am an Anthropology major with minors in Women's Studies and French and I am in my second semester in Dakar, Senegal.  I have been living, learning and studying in Dakar for the last six months, and will be here until June. I am blessed to live with an amazing Senegalese family whom I love, and to have made so many wonderful Senegalese friends that I know will be a part of my life far into the future, Incha'allah.

Before coming here, I spoke almost no french. I can now communicate fluidly and clearly in French. I am taking an Anthropology of Senegambia course completely in French in which I feel very confident. My wolof language skills are improving and I am confident I will be competent by the time I leave Senegal in June.
I am working with an internship at a school in Pikine (a low income suburb of Dakar) where French is the language of communication. I teach English and help organize sustainable development projects within the community.
I have also been blessed to work for Serigne Cheikh Ndiguel Fall and a sect of Senegalese Sufi Islam called Bayefall who promote hard work and prayer as the way to be closest with God. I visit different villages and relgious sites with a doctor volunteering with a project to distribute medicine to people in need. I have traveled all over Senegal with the Bayefalls, I am doing this because it feeds me spiritually and is such an amazing experience. I pay for all my own transport to and from the sites, and am not receving any finacial payment for this, though I am blessed beyond measure to be able to participate. This project is made possible by my two good friends Mariama Fall and Mame Cheikh Mbengue Fall and if you want to learn more about this incredible project you can visit this link here.

I am gaining irreplaceable skills and experience for my future, I want to be a community advocate, organizer and educator here in Senegal as well as bring my knowledge back to the states with workshops and trainings in my low income neighborhood at home in San Francisco, California as well as elsewhere in the US.

I am creating this page because unfortunetly my finacial situation has taken an unexpected turn.
For full disclosure, this program has costed me $28,000. I come from a working class family and although I have had their full support throughout this entire process which has been absolutely invaluable, they have not been able to support me financially. Last semester I was awarded $2000 which allowed me commence my studies here. I have been informed that second semester students are not eligible for financial help from CIEE-although if a student had initially wanted to stay for only one semester but later decided to stay for an additional semester, they would then be eligible for financial help. I am not sure how this works but it has left me in a difficult situation.

Although I have taken out as much in loans as I know I can pay back,  I have budgeted expecting to receive another payment of the same amount ($2000), and am now struggling to figure out I will pay for the $5000 I lack.

By contributing to my gofundme you will not only be helping me continue my studies here, but you help me to continue my work with medicine in villages, as well as contribute in creating a connection between two communities which I believe have a lot to offer each other.
Thank you so much for taking time to read this, for contributing and got sharing with your friends and family. Please feel free to contact with any questions or comments.

Salut!

 Merci Merci Merci Merci!

Thank you so much!
