Give Good Health to George

Who is George?
George Owino is a 42 year Kenyan HIV counselor. He is the bread winner of family of four plus his 2 sisters 2 brothers and mother. George has lived with HIV for 17 years  and Ulcerative Colitis (UC) for 10 years.

The Backstory from George
My family, especially my mother, lost hope when I was bedridden for three years. I could see her sad eyes all the time as I had been left to die. In my death bed, sinking fast, I kept on thinking who would take care of my family.

My will to live  slowly came as a result of HIV medications (ARVs) becoming available in a facility 200 miles away from home. This was enough to bring light to the entire family. After starting ARVs, in six months I was able to walk again though I was still wasted and malnourished with  constant diarrhea. I was later to find out this diarrhea was ulcerative colitis.

But my ulcerative colitis wasn't  diagnosed until 7 years later in 2008. I was told that it was progressing on the right side of my large intestine and was initiated on medications that seemed to cool off the pain and bloody stools though I still had to go to the bathroom  about 12-14 times day and night.

A health crisis
I have managed to cope with my illnesses until December 2017 when it seemed to take charge of me. I lost blood and had to be transfused 4 units of blood, my weight has always remained very low due to constant diarrhea, the pain has increased and I am weak and can’t move around as I used to. The intervention of other expensive medications has not been able to help. My doctor says I need a new medication Infliximab (Remicaide) that is sincerely beyond my reach.

Though malnourished, wasted and sick looking all the time, I find lying down more devastating. I would rather run to the toilet but come back and continue being busy with changing lives which has also been my refuge and comfort. I love serving the community and also get my daily bread from the community service but now I am in pain and fear that I may not be able to continue serving, changing lives and giving hope to my family.

What the money is for
Honestly, when you support me, you shall have given me back my life and plight but above all given hope to many other people that depend on me for inspiration and hope. My young son keep on asking when the pain in my stomach will go and I keep on telling him soon. Please support me if you can.

The money you give will do directly to buying a year's worth of medication for George and the hospital charges to give it. Once George starts the medication, he must continue it for life. Please help him get started.
