George HS Running the Paris Marathon for the CRGP
Hi, I’m George HS and I have decided to run the Paris Marathon in 2025 for the Cross River Gorilla Project (CRGP).
I was first put in contact with the CRGP in Feb 2024 on a university placement. I gathered scientific information on the Cross River Gorilla to present at a charity ball at the Edinburgh Royal Botanical Gardens. After the event I approached the charity and asked if they would be interested in sponsoring me running the 2025 Paris marathon and a partnership was made!!!
CRGP is carrying out essential work in the Lebialem highlands to conserve the Cross River Gorilla species. This species in critically endangered, with roughly 300 individuals left, and conservation efforts need to step up to protect these magnificent mammals. Increased monitoring with wild-life cameras and further legal action to declare protected areas is required to ensure their survival. Unfortunately, The Leblialem highlands is known area of civil conflict in Cameroon, with militants using the dense rainforests to hide from authorities. This makes conservation efforts more difficult and introduced a further element of risk. The team at The Environment and Rural Development Foundation (ERuDeF) still choose to monitor the Cross River Gorilla and make sure that they are subject to minimal anthropogenic threats.
Furthermore, I believe with increased funding and collaborations with organisations in South-west Cameroon, such as the Environmental and Rural Development Foundation (ERuDeF), we can make a real difference. All the donations will be used to boost conservation efforts, raise awareness and educate people on the Cross River Gorilla and why this species is so important to the Leblialem highlands habitat and the surrounding rainforest habitats.
Every Donation makes a difference and make sure to follow us on social media to stay up to date on all info leading up to the big event!!!!!
