Geordie Theatre School Bursary Fund - Fall 2019

Tax deductible
GTS Bursary Fund: Give the gift of FREE theatre education to kids from lower income families across the Island of Montreal!

FOCUS OF THE CAMPAIGN

The GTS Bursary Fund began in 2016 offering financial support to children from lower economic and marginalized backgrounds to participate in Geordie Theatre School. Since that initial year, 42 kids have benefited from the program. By establishing a bursary program, Geordie Theatre School was able to offer the GTS Experience to even more youth across the Greater Montreal Area regardless of their financial circumstances, allowing even more youth to increase their Confidence, Creativity and Craft through a dynamic introduction to theatre.

"Finally, an inclusive program giving kids the occasion to try theatre. My daughter enjoyed her experience and I was amazed with what she learned in her classes. When I asked her what she liked about her theatre classes, she spontaneously replied: everything!"

In order to continue inspiring the next generation of theatre makers we need to raise $2,500. This support will enable 10 incredible youth to receive scholarships to participate in the Fall 2019 session. Each scholarship covers the registration fee, GTS t-shirt, and tickets to all Geordie Theatre Mainstage shows.

Help us bring theatre into the lives of Montreal youth by making a donation to the GTS Bursary Fund. Every contribution helps!

THE IMPACT

Geordie Theatre School (GTS) is a professional theatre training ground and one of the three main pillars of Geordie Theatre founded on the principles of education and outreach. Through GTS, Geordie encourages the importance of giving access to marginalized communities and encouraging the diversity of the next generation of art and community leaders from 6 to 17 years old.

GTS’ objective is to build a solid foundation in acting while fostering a love for the theatre. The school instills students with the fundamentals of Confidence, Creativity and Craft. These fundamentals are taught through studies in Ensemble, Body/Voice, Imagination, Character and Storytelling.

The bursary itself has had a huge impact on the lives of those youth who have received scholarships since its inception in 2016. For many of them it was their first time participating in a theatre class outside of school – some didn’t even have that. The youth were able to have their voices heard by being active in the creation of their final performance which was then presented to families, friends and invited guests. The enthusiasm and pride in the families’ faces as they watched the students on stage was a powerful touchstone of just how important it is for youth to be exposed to and engaged in quality theatre training, regardless of their financial situation.

"I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be an actor and I would really wish that many other kids can also participate in this theatre class and share the joy with me. I enjoy Geordie Theatre School because they have great activities, great games and good teachers. So, thank you Geordie Theatre School."
