GENTS & GLAM Take NYC!

Travel is the only thing you buy, that makes you richer! I'm excited to announce our experiential learning opportunity to New York City this November(2017)! With grateful hearts, we are seeking the financial  support of our families, friends, community and anyone who believes in what we are doing.  In November we will be taking 40 participants to the Big Apple for the experience of a lifetime. The total cost of the trip is $800 per person. All travelers have paid/fundraised a $100 deposit, leaving them all owing $700. So, the magic number is now $28,000($700 X 40 individuals)! GENTS&GLAM is a mentoring and youth leadership development program in Appling County (Baxley, GA). It is comprised of 75 middle, high school and college students. GENTS&GLAM helps to prepare them for their next academic stage as well as prepare them for life. Our mission is to inspire youth to dream, believe and achieve! We are committed to providing positive opportunities and shaping students into their best selves.  We provide:

· College Tours- Since 2013, we have taken 200 students on 12 college tours  

· Academic Support -We provide weekly tutoring. To date, 90% of our students are performing at grade level.

· Leadership development -Monthly leadership and life skill classes are held at school and in the community. Since 2013, more than 300 life skill sessions have been held, serving more than 75 students. 

· Counseling & guidance - Participating youth are provided opportunities to explore and learn about careers and opportunities that will have a positive impact in their life. Career fairs, career inventories, career exploration are all provided.

· Community job shadowing - In 2017, GENTS&GLAM is partnering with local businesses to provide youth with hands on training in various community businesses. GA Power, Sheriff’s Department, local hospitals are possible job training sites.

· Servitude/volunteerism - GENTS&GLAM gives back! Youth volunteer at the nursing home every 3rd Saturday, hold clothing drives for needy children, and collect medical supplies for mission trips to Haiti. Through volunteerism, youth learn the importance of community and giving back. 

· Experiential Learning-Our travel component has the potential to change lives-for the better. In 2016, GENTS&GLAM toured the Nation’s Capital, Washington DC. This trip was the first time many of GENTS&GLAM students traveled across state lines. Many of GENTS&GLAM participants live below the poverty guidelines and for families it can be a financial hardship for many families. We offset costs through fundraising events and donor contributions. In addition, 100% of donations touch the lives of the youth enrolled in GENTS&GLAM, thereby keeping overhead cost to a minimum. In 2017, our selected city is New York and in 2018 we will embark upon international waters to London!
