Meet Gentry Annabelle! Gentry was born with congenital glaucoma and Peter's Anomaly which is an opacity of the corneas. Gentry has had 5 cornea transplants, 5 glaucoma surgeries, and over 30 times under anesthesia. When Gentry was 2 years old, she lost vision in her left eye due to a retinal detachment. Her right eye has been stable for the past four years, but her pressure has been gradually increasing. At an appointment on Monday, Dec. 11th, her doctors discovered her pressure was in an unsafe range and her optic nerve was showing signs of distress. To preserve the vision in her only seeing eye, she will need immediate surgery. While she has been fortunate to receive outstanding care here at Children's Mercy, this is a procedure that will require specialized expertise at the Children's Hospital in LA.
My name is Cory Carr and I am a life long friend of Becky Howard (Gentry's Mother). Both of us are from the city of Raymore MO and Becky still lives there. The Howard's will celebrate Christmas on December 24th and will fly to LA on Christmas day. Gentry's surgery is scheduled for Dec. 27th. Gentry we will be in LA for a minimum of 1-week recovering while she is monitored at the Children's Hospital of LA. With this new journey, comes unanticipated medical expenses. The Howard’s are fortunate and grateful to be able to provide their family a wonderful life, but when it comes to this new unexpected journey, it takes a village and that VILLAGE is us! They will not only face unplanned travel and lodging expenses in the coming days, but also out-of-pocket medical expenses not covered by insurance. We know the Children’s Hospital of LA is out-of-network, and the pocket costs are unknown at this point. We’re hoping that with a village of support, we can help raise $10,000 to support Gentry Annabelle! The funds raised will be used for travel expenses and medical expenses incurred throughout the process.
