Support The Gentle Barn

We've never been this exhausted! Our throats burn, our bodies ache, our skin is dry, our lips are chapped, and we are afraid to go to sleep for fear that the fire will come back. We haven't slept in days. We could not believe how fast the fire got to our door! With almost a hundred rescued animals, we feel a sense of responsibility like never before. It is amazing how unprepared you find yourself when the fire is bearing down and you have half the time you thought you would. We need help to replenish and purchase emergency equipment and supplies immediately.

Our animals are displaced on several properties, our barnyard is empty and lonely, and we cannot wait till this is over and they can come home. But the fire is still raging, the winds are about to pick up again with a forecast of the most powerful winds in California’s history, and each time the wind picks up, our power is shut off for days at a time. We are not through this yet!

Living in California means living with drought and fire. Whether we are evacuating our own animals, or saving other people's animals, it is something we deal with every year. This time the community came out in droves to support us with trucks, trailers, helping hands and offers of refuge, but due to roadblocks and timing, most couldn't reach us. We need to be more self-sufficient in evacuating our own animals, and we want to play a bigger role in rescuing animals from fires in our community. We need things such as crates, trucks, trailers, evacuation stalls, and enough support to run The Gentle Barn's programs and services for the upcoming year.
