My husband turned the big 30! In the final hours of planning a huge party for him, I went to pick up my mother-in-law from the airport, who was flying in from Florida to surprise him for his birthday. She was running at 100 miles per hour, herself, as she is a teacher and had to run from the classroom to the airport within hours (not to mention, her flight got delayed).

On our way home from the airport, I was telling my mother- in-law how exhausted I was and that I couldn't bear to see another balloon or party favor ever again. As we started brainstorming all the ways to get him to the catering hall, she received a message from a parent, that quickly made our exhaustion and complaints seem trivial.

A parent of one of my mother-in-law’s students wrote an email of true desperation for help for her two daughters (one age 10, the other age 8). She expressed how she could not afford school uniforms and her daughters were wearing sizes way too small for them to fit into (ie: one daughter who wears a size 5.5 in sneakers is currently wearing a size 4). The mother was asking for small assistance with at least uniform shirts and a pair of sneakers (used or new), as she truly could not afford to purchase anything for her daughters (including but not limited to school supplies, backpacks, clothes, socks, tshirts, training bras, sanitary pads, etc). She expressed how her daughters are being bullied every single day because of their foul odor (no soap/deodorant/shampoo, etc.), the holes in their clothing (clothes that don't fit them), and their ill-fitting unisex style (wearing second hand clothes regardless if they came from a boy or girl).

As I listened to the email, I felt my heart literally breaking into hundreds, if not millions, of pieces and immediately asked how I could help.

As sad as this is, these girls DO NOT let anything steal their joy. They come to school with a positive attitude, are helpful to their peers and most importantly still average OUTSTANDING grades (high 80's and 90's). The older sister (M.K...a) is an exceptional reader and writer; and little (Ge....s) is quite the artist. They have perfect attendance and are active participants in their classes.  M.K...a actually just scored a 100% on her reading test last Friday.

The mother is great mom who struggles financially (she is not on drugs and gives her girls alot of love- which is what keeps their spirits so high).

I not only have so much love for them, but I admire their strength in being able to stay positive in what for many would consider a negative time.

I am asking to raise $2,500 to help buy these young girls things they desperately need and deserve including, but not limited to school uniforms, shirts, jeans, underwear, t-shirts, socks, training bras, bedsheets, sanitary pads, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, new backpacks filled with school supplies, etc.

I have spent a bit of my own personal money in buying them things, but they desperately need more.

This campaign is not limited to money. I am actively making trips around the NY/Tristate area to people who have contacted me looking for ways to help.

If not monetary, I will gladly accept any gently used girl's clothing/shoes; and/or any unopened hygiene products such as the ones I've listed above (but will accept anything).

They will be soooo happy and grateful for anything anyone can spare.

I can be reached by email anytime to pick up anything you'd like to donate at: [email redacted].

Thank you so much for your time! I really look forward to seeing us come together to help these beautiful, bright-hearted girls who are so deserving and desperate for our help.

Please feel free to share this post as many times as you like, with whoever you'd like.

(I have not spelled out their names, as I do not know how far this campaign will go and would like to protect their identity as well as prevent future bullying).

Best,

Melissa
