Gene Griggs-Medical Expenses

Gene Griggs is a life time resident of Andalusia (Covington County), AL. In February of 2013, Gene was diagnosed with Stage 4-non-small cell lung cancer, with less than 15 months to live.  He immediately began chemo therapy treatments.  During the last five years of treatments, he has remained positive and hopeful to beat the odds, which he has done.  He is what the doctors have described as being; "an unusual case."  Two weeks ago, he underwent a scan which showed a spot on his other lung.  As a result, a biopsy was done, which proved to also be cancer.  While the original nodule is still existent, it has not grown.  Therefore, instead of focusing on the original nodule, the doctor's focus is now on the new spot.  The course of treatment is going to be radiation laser treatment, which the doctors have said would "zap it gone."  

While he and his wife, LaFerne Dyess Griggs' faith has sustained them throughout the years, the process has drained them financially.  He is on disability and his wife is retired.  LaFerne retired from the Andalusia Public Library just a few months prior to Gene's diagnosis.  Although, LaFerne's retirement was to be filled with leisure activities, it became a blessing in disguise as she has been able to be with Gene throughout this journey that they are on. 

Any monetary contribution will be a great blessing to them.  No gift is too great or too small.  The most important thing anyone can do is to pray that they remain strong in their faith and hope.
