Thank you for taking the time to look at my page.
Girls Empowerment through Mindfulness (G.E.M.)
As a mom of four girls and an educator, I felt the need to provide preteen girls with a program to help guide them through the tough years of middle school. Helping pre-teen girls learn how to handle stress, build their self-confidence, face into peer pressure and new challenges, and make positive life choices has become my passion! So I created a program. And after piloting the program through our local recreation department I know there is an even stronger need to teach girls mindfulness tactics. That is how Girls Empowerment through Mindfulness, Inc was born. Mindfulness has become increasingly relevant and valuable amongst adults but there are very few programs that develop and teach these habits for children, despite supporting research. It is far easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults.
Below is our G.E.M. mission statement:
The Girls Empowerment through Mindfulness (G.E.M.) curriculum was developed to teach pre-teen girls how to handle stress, increase self-confidence and make positive life choices. Mindfulness essentially means paying attention to the present moment with no judgements. Studies show the wide range of benefits that come from practicing mindfulness, from strengthening attention and concentration, to fostering prosocial behaviors and healthy relationships. This 8 week course will teach girls how to: meditate, do yoga poses, make healthy decisions about food, drugs and relationships, and set achievable goals for empowerment. The GEM program gives young girls a “tool belt” of ideas to use when in stressful situations and provides girls with a strong group dynamic.
The donations will go directly to the G.E.M. program to help broaden our reach and get the program out to more townships and many more girls, to offset the costs of becoming a 501c(3) tax-exempt nonprofit and cover insurance costs for the program.
