I am 39 years old and received the diagnosis of breast cancer. Since my diagnosis, I've experienced several complications that have forced me to take a medical leave much sooner than planned. I've only been at my job since January, so I do not qualify for FMLA, however, the only way to be off and still keep my health insurance is through medical leave. I can get temporary disability, but in the long run, it doesn't cover much and takes some time to receive it. I don't really have a specific goal...I put a number in there because they require one.
Honestly, I intended to work my full time job while going through chemo and only taking time off when I had to have my breast surgery, but that has proven difficult. I'm tired, more than just your average tired, and I'm sick a lot. Working through constant nausea had been challenging. I had surgery to have a port put in, which saves my veins from collapsing during chemo treatments and due to the irresponsibility of the nurses at our local hospital, I had to have emergency surgery over the weekend to remove it because they caused an infection. Once a port becomes infected, it is no longer viable. I have to have a new one placed before my next chemo treatment on the 30th. With the current infection, I am extremely susceptible to new infection.
I'm a mother of three and I'm so blessed. Before cancer, I was otherwise completely healthy. Never a health problem in my life. Breast cancer is nowhere in my family history, but somehow it found me.
Medical leave leaves me without income. I don't make a ton of money, but nevertheless, my income was needed. I still have bills and mouths to feed, so any help that can be offered is appreciated. If you have nothing to give, please don't. I wouldn't ask anyone to give something they couldn't offer. I just need help getting by until I can go back to work, which I predict will be some time early next year, after all chemo and surgeries have been completed. I live a simple life and don't want for much. Through this whole thing, I've learned that life is precious and can change in an instant. Thank you for any help in advance. My family appreciates it more than you know!
