Elizabeth’s Recovery
We are raising funds to help a dear woman recover from double trauma. She does not want her picture posted in order to protect her confidentiality, but what you see above is some of her artwork. Elizabeth suffered from horrific abuse at the hands of her own parents from ages 2 through 19, when she found the strength to escape her home and place of birth. She used her unbelievable personal strength to rebuild a life alone at age 19 in a new place, with the help of a caring couple who were ministers and ran a shelter. She created a stable life, received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, and began working in a profession that helps children in danger. She recovered significantly from her early trauma for over 20 years. About 2 years ago she was attacked in her apartment – beaten severely in the head – and this re-triggered her trauma. She is living with severe flashbacks, nightmares, suicidal thoughts, and fear, but she is responding to treatment and still working in her field – protecting and advocating for children. Elizabeth is a strong, intelligent, caring woman. All of her resources have gone to her treatment and trying to calm the chaos that a traumatic crime can create. Because of medical, therapeutic, and childcare expenses, she can’t afford to find a new place to live without assistance with a deposit and first month’s rent. This is crucial, because living in the place where she was attacked for 2 years now is a horror for her. She also is in great need of a therapeutic service dog, funds to help board the dog during her workdays, auto repairs, eyeglasses, and dental work. We have great confidence in her ability to recover once she leaves the apartment of her re-victimization. And we must stress she is not a helpless victim – she has managed to hold onto her full-time, important work. She simply has fallen behind financially and emotionally. Please help if you can. The work she does prevents what happened to her from happening to others. Thank you.
