Melvin Johnson Medical Expenses

Melvin was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer back in May, 2017.  He underwent chemo, lung and brain radiation.  His treatments were complete and he was cancer-free in November, 2017.  The doctors have recently found another tumor IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE as the original tumor.  We were told that after the first radiation treatments he underwent, NOTHING should be able to grow in that same spot.   We then were told that this is EXTREMELY rare.  It’s so rare that they only have 40 diagnosed cases NATIONWIDE!  It’s so rare that they haven’t had any chances to do any case studies, therefore his treatment from this point forward is a best guess from some of the best specialists nationwide.  It’s so rare that there are no statistics for this.

They found 2 brain tumors and has gone through 3 brain radiation treatments

The treatment plan recommended was to radiate the lung for 15 days, brain radiation followed up with Immunotherapy.  Immunotherapy is a treatment that trains his cells to fight off the cancer cells.  It has yet to be used on a situation such as Melvin’s.

In the past 3 months he has been hospitalized 4 times for pneumonia.  The immunotherapy has compromised his ability to fight off any kind of infection.

In an effort to cover many unseen costs not covered by any type of insurance we are asking you to help him  to cover these expenses. At this time, his immune system is weakened and, he is spending much more time in the hospital than anyone would want.  Some of the treatments that are experimental are not covered and very expensive due to the tests  being experimental and unproven according to insurance they will not be covered. He will need to personally pay for these and this is an attempt to lower the burden.
