Alexandra Herrera, a vibrant, faithful and loving 13 year old family member of St. Theresa School (STS), was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma over the holiday break. This is a call to all who want to make a difference by donating to this gofundme initiative. Time is of the essence and this is a chance for us to shine as humans, family, friends, fellow parishioners, and school community.
Alexandra started with symptoms about two weeks ago and after an extensive work up, the final diagnosis was confirmed. Ale will be undergoing aggressive treatment with chemotherapy and radiation therapy, in order to reduce the size of the mass for surgical removal. She will be going through many physical changes over the next few months with treatment and will need to miss school intermittently. Despite this unforeseen obstacle, the Herrera family has remained positive and grounded in their faith. And they will need support from the STS community, family, and friends to help them along this journey.
Andria and Alejandro Herrera have been very dedicated to our community with leading church retreats, organizing youth group and volunteer hours for our children, and school committees such as our successful STS fair fundraiser. They are facing challenging times and now need our support! This includes not only emotional but financial support as well.
We are all parents and can only imagine the toll this diagnosis has taken on the family. Andria and Alejandro will have to accompany Ale to many doctor’s visits and be there for hospitalizations whenever needed. That should be their primary concern, and having a financial cushion will give them the ability to keep their focus solely on Ale and their son Andres. It is in times like this that the strength and support of a community is really needed. And they have earned that support in more ways than one.
