My name is Mel Yeates, and since 2016 I have been busking to raise funds for cancer research and mental health awareness and help.
Everyone has a story to tell, but not all are ready to share it. My story is my motivator for my journey around Australia in 2017.
In year 9 during a school camp, two of my friends were killed when a tree landed on their tent during a sudden storm. It was absolutely heart-breaking to attend two funerals in one day, and I was depressed and angry for a long time afterwards. It wasn't until I started feeling happiness again that I realised how depressed I had been.
My cousin has had cancer twice, the last time resulting in him needing a double lung transplant. He's now been cancer free for about 5 years, and has since participated in triathlons and marathons.
And so I busk on behalf of all who have suffered from cancer, depression and anxiety, for those that have lost a friend or family member, in the hopes that the least I can do is put a smile on someone's face for a moment, to chase away the black dog that is depression, and to help find a cure for cancer.

Thank you to those that have already donated, whether it was a donation, fuel, or a safe place to sleep. You are amazing, and I can't raise this money without you!
I plan to head back on the road sometime over the next few years, so please keep an eye out for me!
