Hello, my name is Madison, and im a second year Painting major at Pratt Institute school of arts in New York City. My school is very expensive but I get one of the greatest art educational experiences in the country here. My absolute passion is visual arts and has been all my life. My mother left me to my grandmother at a younge age. Iv lived with my grandmother all my life and about 7 years ago her health started decline. Things got so bad she couldn't work anymore and at times we almost lost everything, until we got goverment help. But the help we recieve is only enough to feed us and keep a roof over our heads. All through High School I was her main care taker and even missed days of school to be with her on bad days. It has been a continuous struggle for us both and recently the struggle has taken her completely. College seemed more and more unattainable unless I could get a full ride, so I worked hard my senior year, entering and winning art competions, even having art shows of my own to raise funds. My hard work payed off and I was able to get a decent scholarship from the school of my dreams and I raised enough money to cover the extra costs for the first year. But with the rising costs of tuition and housing each year, and without any additional financial help, I am finding it harder and harder to stay on track. With the money that I raise I can not only afford next years tuition and housing but also art supplies and transportation in New York City. The money I raise here means so much to me because then I can continue to work hard for my life and my art which is something my grandmother would have wanted. Any amount helps and I will be forever thankful to people generous enough to help fund my art education.
