Life-Saving Surgeries for Larry & Carri Leroux

Donation protected
These are our parents, Larry and Carri Leroux; two of the most loving and giving people. They live in Barra de Navidad, Mexico. They love Costalegre (as the area is nicknamed,) and spend much of their time helping the people who live there. They raise money to help aspiring students in the community go to college in the medical field. They also collect needed items for the señor centers. They take daily walks on the main highway, picking up trash to help keep it clean. And finally, they are continually helping other expats as they navigate life in Mexico. They are the go-to people as they have lived there for so long and are very knowledgeable. Most of you who know them, love them.

Now they need help. And it is hard for them to ask. So we are doing it for them. It is quite a story that involves 5 surgeries within nine months time.

1 - Carri started it by breaking her back in March trying to lift a generator; it was just as the pandemic started. She took an ambulance to the hospital for surgery #1. After being bedridden for 6 weeks, she lost a lot of weight.

2 - Just as she began walking again, Carri started having pain in her abdomen. Back to the hospital in May for surgery #2, removal of scar tissue completely blocking her intestine due to a surgery she had back in her 20s.

3 - Come July, more pain, but unable to detect why. Then September brings surgery #3, when they found gallstones which ultimately led to the removed her gallbladder. An infection ensues, but finally Carri feels better for a short period of time. Maybe she can start gaining some weight.

4 - That thought was short lived. And this is when it gets scary. Carri, still experiencing pain, is down to 100 lbs and fed up, goes back to the hospital in November for answers. They want to avoid surgery by using fluids to open up the blockage they believe still exists from more scar tissue. I guess it wasn’t her turn though. And maybe Larry felt left out. Because while they are in the hospital for Carri, Larry starts having extreme pain. After a CT scan, he is rushed into emergency surgery for a ruptured bowel. Surgery #4 was life threatening. The doctor’s said if he hadn’t already been in the hospital….

5 - And here we are today. Larry is recovering well, thank goodness. But I myself did not feel confident when they let my mom go home from the last stay. It didn’t feel right. And as it turned out, she felt good for only a few days before even worse pain starts. Back to the hospital with the help of many friends as Larry was still recovering. She ends up in emergency surgery, and this is #5. She has 50cm of twisted, nonfunctioning intestines removed. Fortunately, the surgery went well and she is recovering in the hospital now as I write this.

Please know that they tried to use the public hospitals, but because of the emergency nature of the visits, it was impossible. They are so impacted due to covid. On their last trip to the public hospital, Carri spent 2 days in pain, in the hallway, sitting in a recliner. She was not being seen, so she had to transfer to a private hospital. If she hadn’t, she may not have survived.

This is a story of life, and appreciation of it. When death stares you in the face, it wakes you up. Our parents have been through a lot this year. They are looking forward to a new plan of walking more, releasing stress, and finding more joy.

They are so grateful to still have life and that all of you are in it.

Now we ask for help. This was way too much for them to handle financially in one year. They paid for the first few surgeries and their family helped as well. Now we are unable to pay for the rest of their medical bills and they are maxed out. So we have created this fund in the hopes to alleviate some of the pressure. Unfortunately, the hospital does not allow for payment plans. $15,000 usd of the money we are raising is due by Monday, December 14.

If you are able to donate to our parents, we would be so very grateful. Any amount is appreciated. If we all chip in a little, it will add up to a lot.

Thank you, and love to you all, from their children,
