Gazpacho the Cat and His Bad Peepee

Donation protected
UPDATE #1: I Am absolutely floored by everyone's generosity. Gazpacho is currently undergoing his PU surgery, and we hope to hear back from the surgeon after the procedure is done and he is in recovery. Again, thank you so much to everyone for your contributions. It truly means the world to us, and you are a huge part of allowing us to continue treasuring our little guy for the rest of his (hopefully very, very long) life! Earlier it was nothing but tears of sadness, but now I cannot stop crying over how kind and generous everyone has been. I am just stunned. I don't think I will ever truly have the words to show how grateful I am.

UPDATE #2: I continue to be absolutely stunned by everyone's kindness and generosity! Gazpacho's surgery was a success, and if there aren't any issues while they are monitoring him, he should come home TONIGHT! I will make another update when I get more news!

UPDATE #3: Gus will come home tonight! Will add a picture of the poor cone boy when he is home safely :)

UPDATE #4: GUS IS HOME! He is very tired and nervous, but he is home safely. We are watching him nonstop and making sure to give him pets and kisses.

(He is looking a bit rough. He's a poor guy.)

UPDATE #5: He was able to do a peepee and a poopoo and eat some food!

(Another Gus picture, as a treat!)

Anyone who knows me knows that I love my cats dearly, and they are like weird little guys who live in my house. Gazpacho is the youngest of these weird little guys, and he is, unfortunately, a medical disaster.

On Wednesday, May 4, Gazpacho was doing the squatties and big cries. I assumed that this meant he maybe had a urinary infection, but due to the risk associated with potential urinary blockages in cats, I brought him to the (expensive) 24-hour emergency vet to ensure he would be okay.

After several early morning hours (the kickoff to a markedly unfun Cinco de Mayo), the veterinarian informed me that Gazpacho likely had a blockage. They would remove the blockage and wanted to monitor him in hospital for several days. This bill put us back $3,000. Obviously, that sucks a lot, but it's worth it for Gazpacho, of course. Unfortunately, Gazpacho's peepee problems didn't end there.

On what was supposed to be his final hospital day, I was informed that his anatomy is extremely abnormal, and he effectively has to have his penis removed and a new urethra created in its place. This surgery is estimated at just under $10,000*, and that DOES NOT include any additional days he will be required to stay in the hospital for monitoring.

*the other emergency vet came in at a lower price, thankfully, so I lowered the campaign amount.

All of this is to say that $15,000+ is an inordinate amount of money for me, and even with Care Credit, it's going to be a financial burden. Granted, $15,000 is a lot for most people, but a surprise 15k is the worst kind, I think.

The funds from this GoFundMe will go directly towards Gazpacho's surgery costs.

We are going to do everything in our power to keep Gazpacho happy and healthy, but this amount of money will necessitate opening a new line of credit. Obviously begging for money is not ideal, but...well...we kind of have to. Anything and everything is a huge help and is greatly appreciated. You are heroes for helping us and Gazpacho's broken wiener.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
