On January 31, Gaylen had what would be his 1st of 4 major surgeries. Due to complications and infections, his health kept deteriorating faster than doctors could diagnose and treat. Finally, on April 19th, after an upper GI and biopsies, we were told they had found Stage 3 Esophagus Cancer. Since then we have been to a lot of doctors and heard a lot of opinions and they all say the same thing: it's not good and there doesn't seem to be many options for what can be done. Surgery is extremely difficult, they would remove the esophagus and attach his stomach to what was left. This could only be done after radiation and chemo- and radiation would damage the muscle flap he has since they removed his sternum.
He has lost about 70 pounds since January, he can't keep any food down at all including soups, smoothies and even water and Gatorade most of the time. Because of this, he has regular IV treatments for dehydration.
This has been very hard for our family and a lot of decisions have been made. There so much fear of the unknown. On the positive side Gaylen knows the Lord and we are believing for a miracle.
At this time, it is best for him to move to TX. There are more advanced treatment facilities there and he would have the close support of family and friends. We can't do this alone.
His hospital bills have drained everything and his medications are expensive. We are asking for help- financial help to get Gaylen home to Texas and to give him the best quality of life.
Thank you all so much I love you all.
