<div>The Gav’s Classic is a 3 on 3 blind draw basketball tournament. It started in my family backyard in 1976 where I grew up. It moved to another location in 1982 and moved once again to my current home in 1996.

<div>In 1985, The Classic started donating small proceeds to The Sisters of Charity.

<div>Each year, the tournament is a community and family-based day with kids and adults. Following the 3 on 3 tournament, there are kids' shooting games. This year’s tournament marks the 50th year and will have at least 60 players, hosted on July 18th.

<div>In 2006, the donations became much larger and still consistent each year. Below is a listing of previous causes and donation recipients:

<div>2006-2008: Donations were made to the Chris Hutt Children Foundation.



</div>



<div>2009: Donations were made to the Kathleen Reckley-Jontz education fund.

<div>2010: Donations were made in Beth Kelshaw’s name to an education fund to Holy Spirit School.



</div>

<div>2011: Donations were made in Bill Gavaghan’s name to an education fund to Holy Cross School and Scecina High School.

<div>2012: Donations were made in Zachary Clegg’s name to an education fund to Holy Spirit School.

<div>2013: Donations were made to Kerry O'Brien to help with medical expenses related to cancer.

<div>2014: Donations were made to Mitch Miller to help with medical expenses.

<div>2015: Donations were made available for four students from four Eastside schools.

<div>2016: Donations were made for a very special young boy. One of the bravest humans many and I have ever known. Brody Stephens was diagnosed with cancer for the second time and donations were made for him and his family to enjoy a trip to Disney World.

<div>2017: Following Brody Stephens' death on April 29th, 2017, donations were made to Riley Children’s Hospital - Child Life Department. The Child Life Department at Riley provides patients with entertainment, crafts, art, music therapy, toys, and educational assistance.

<div>2018: Donations were made to Michaela Levell for medical expenses related to cancer. A portion of donations were also given to the Indianapolis Catholic Charities. Michaela was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma just six days before college graduation. Graduating with a social work degree, Michaela completed her internship with Indianapolis Catholic Charities.

<div>2019: Proceeds were split following the death of two Eastside friends; Marydel Moran and David Short. A portion of donations went to Outreach Indiana in the name of David Short with the other portion provided to Lee Moran relating to medical costs.

<div>2021: Donations were made once again to two separate entities. Lilly Cunigan will receive half in scholarship form to Scecina High School, in memory of Cory Gray. The remaining half being donated to Miracle Place in memory of Juliet Rew.

<div>2022: Donations were made to the Scecina High School football program.

<div>2023: Donations were made to Calvary Christian Church in Dennis Gavaghan's name and Markeeth Stokes to help with medical expenses.

<div>2024: The proceeds were given to Miracle Place for their expenses.

<div>2025: Donations made in memory of Nick Cathcart. The money raised was to help support his family by starting college funds for his two children. The Cathcart family has been long-time supporters of this event!

<div>This year the proceeds will go to Little Flower Catholic School for their 100th Anniversary and two LF graduates,  Kenny and Debbie (Hines) Aull for needed medical expenses.

<div>An estimated $115,000 has been raised over the years and donated to just causes.

<div>The past several years, my son Daniel Gavaghan has taken on a much-needed role to keep the Classic going with players and fundraising.
