Gary Wind —Cancer Relief Fundraiser

My father, Gary Wind, was born and raised in Detroit. He is a well-known and -respected professional in the Adult Entertainment Industry for over 35 years, and those close to him can attest to his unyielding generosity, integrity, and loyalty. My father is a charismatic, wise man who has more friends than I (or anyone) could hope to accumulate in a lifetime. He taught me humility, responsibility, and determination, and I surely wouldn't be the man I am today if not for my father and his strength of character.

As many of you know, my father recently suffered a stroke —which led to the discovery of a mass in his prefrontal cortex. Surgeons were able to successfully remove 90% of the tumor, but a subsequent biopsy has brought our worst fears to life.

Dad has been diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), a fast-growing and aggressive form of Cancer. He has recovered very well from the surgery, but his cognitive functioning has dramatic ups and downs. He has remarkable moments/days of lucidity, which is a blessing! But he also has moments where the symptoms take over and I can hardly recognize him. My dad has a hard road ahead of him, and with a diagnosis like his there is no telling what could happen next. GBM is a terminal condition, and the doctors have given my dad between 3 and 6 months.

Dad's been at an in-patient rehab center for the past few weeks, but insurance coverage is running out and we are trying to transition him to a relative's property in Waterford with at-home health care. Insurance/hospice will cover some of his care, but NOT premiums, deductibles, or living expenses. I want the rest of my dad's life to be peaceful and dignified, but home health care (which is NOT covered) costs $300-500 per day! I just don't know what to do.

As those closest to him already know, the past few years haven't been kind to my dad. Like many others in the Industry, he's fallen on hard times over the past decade —including falling victim to mortgage fraud, which cost him his home in Plymouth, and accumulating over $100K in medical bills, mostly from his two heart attacks. And now that he is unable to work, he will have a limited amount of money coming in to offset the incredible cost of home care and treatment.

We need help. Dad has not given me permission to do this, nor would he approve. I haven't told him because I don't want to upset him or distract him from his health. One life lesson I did NOT learn from my father is how important it is to ask for help when you need it, to rely on your loved ones and community to come through when it really counts.

Dad has too much pride to ask for help, so I will ask for him. Anything you *can* give is MORE than enough. If you're struggling too, then prayers and words of support are plenty. If you'd prefer to send a personal check by mail, please send to:
