Gary is getting a kidney!

Gary has lived in this area all his life and has served as a 4-H leader for the past 4 years. Gary has played softball in Ottawa for over 30 years and was active in volleyball, walleyball and basketball until he had to give up all sports to be on dialysis for the last 2 years.
Gary was originally diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease more than 30 years ago. He became eligible for the transplant list 4 years ago and has been on dialysis for a little over 2 years. Despite being registered in Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa his expected wait time for a kidney was still 1 1/2 - 2 years. We anticipated having the time to save and prepare for this transplant, however,

A humanitarian donor has stepped forward to provide an answer to the Swanson family prayers.
Gary will be receiving a kidney from a live donor in Iowa on September 20, 2017. We will have to stay in Iowa for 5 weeks post-surgery and life will be a little crazy for a while, however, we feel so blessed.  We are hoping to raise enough money to cover lodging, meals and travel.
