Gary’s Cancer Comfort Fund

Eight months ago our father, Gary was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma.  This was going to be his second time battling lymphoma and we knew that it's always a more difficult battle the second time around.  The doctors were hopeful, but after an initial round of weeklong and 24 hour a day inpatient chemotherapy, the tumors were not shrinking as much as the doctors hoped.  There seemed to still be more options, but looked like our Dad was facing a chronic cancer at this point.  After  a round of radiation the doctor seemed to think the tumors were gone, at least for the near future.  We had been warned that the cancer would be back within the year.  The radiation was to buy us time and to relieve the pain of the growing tumors.  There was talk of clinical trials, but the tumors started growing faster and faster.  At his next Doctors appointment we found out the cancer was back and after only 2 months.  The doctor gave him 6 months to live without treatment.  We chose to fight.
His Doctor decided the best bet would be to begin another chemo drug.  Things looked up, he had completed 2 sessions of chemo.  Then we got a letter from the insurance company, They would no longer be covering that type of chemotherapy.  So we would change the treatment again and do inpatient chemotherapy.  The first treatment was halted due to low platelet counts and the second because he had developed a massive infection in his foot from his diabetes.  All treatment would be postponed until the infection had cleared.
On December 12th, he fell for the second time and was admitted into the hospital.  After extensive testing and treatments for his infection, the Doctors told us that treatment for his cancer was no longer an option, the risk of death from chemotherapy was too high.  End of life care was recommended and that we enjoy what time we have left.
We made the decision to move him into the Riverstone Hospice House, where he will get the best care possible for him.  Unfortunately, while insurance will cover the medical side of hospice care, it doesn't cover room and board.  The cost is about $8000 a month out of pocket for our parents.  During this tragic time in our family we would like to alleviate as much of the financial burden for them.  Hospice, funeral, and travel costs from family to come home to see him add up quickly.  We're just hoping to raise enough funds for our Mom, that it removes one area of stress from an already stressful and heartbreaking time in our lives.

Thank you for anything you can contribute.
