Gary (Moose) Schultz, for those who may not know, is a 51-year-old high school football coach who has dedicated his life to positively impacting the character and well-being of young athletes. He is the son of Junior and Jolene Schultz of Kanopolis, Kansas. He attended Ellsworth High School and graduated in the class of 1985.

On a personal level, he has been one of my closest friends since 1985 and is the godfather to my two daughters. We were teammates on the Butler County Kansas Community College and Southern Arkansas University football teams from 1985-1989. On a professional level, we coached together at Rivercrest ISD and we have also worked together at Thrall ISD.

Overall, Coach Schultz has coached at Colby USD in Kansas, Mt. Pleasant ISD, Rivercrest ISD, Thrall ISD, Alba-Golden ISD, Linden-Kildare ISD, and Honey Grove ISD, where he is currently the head football coach. In addition to football, he has also coached boys/girls basketball, boys/girls track, boys/girls powerlifting, baseball, and others. With his lengthy career in many sports and at multiple schools, he has positively impacted the lives of countless individuals. His influence and selflessness goes far beyond the football field, as he has permanently changed immeasurable young lives for the better.

On Sunday, November 12, Coach Schultz suffered a heart attack in his home in Honey Grove, Texas. He then drove himself to Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, Texas, to receive medical attention. On Monday, November 13, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery. After surgery, he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit to receive post-operative treatment.

Coach Schultz remained in the Intensive Care Unit in Paris Regional Medical Center until Monday, November 20th, when, due to complications, he was flown by jet to Roberts Hospital – Baylor University in Dallas, Texas.

According to the latest update on his condition, as of Saturday, November 25th, at 7:00 p.m. CT, Coach Schultz is continuing to receive medical treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at Roberts Hospital. He looks comfortable and is continuing to do well, and the hospital staff is happy with his progress.

Please refer to this page for updates as we continue to respect the privacy of his family. Their primary focus is on his continued healing.

We kindly ask for continued prayers for Coach Schultz as well as his family. His father and mother, Junior and Jolene Schultz, as well as his siblings Barry, Jamie, and Angel.

We welcome any donations small or large as every dollar counts and is appreciated.
