Gary Kuper's Medical Expenses

Donation protected

Hi my name is Cherie Boussum and I created this fundraiser for my cousin Angela Kuper and her husband, Gary Kuper. Gary was in a terrible motorcycle accident early Saturday morning on June 12th.

The Kuper's have had their fair share of difficulties this year. Angela and Gary were self-employed prior to the start of the Pandemic. Angela was drawing Unemployment which was recently cut off by the Governor of Missouri. Now they have no income coming in.

March of 2021, Angela's mother passed away after years of struggling with dementia. At the same time Angela, Gary & her Pop had contracted Covid 19. Fortunately it was mild for Angela & Gary but not so for her Pop. Just a few weeks later, her father was put on hospice care due to his weakening heart. Angela & Gary are the main caregivers for him but have the support of a Hospice Nurse & Aid that come in twice a week to help keep him comfortable.

On Saturday 6/12/21, around 2:30 am disaster struck again. Angela got a call around 2:30 am from a Woodriver Police Officer, who informed her that Gary had laid down his bike at the intersection of SR 143 & Route 3 in IL. What actually happened is unclear as Gary has no memory of the accident & there were no witnesses. Fortunately a Truck Driver saw his Tail Lights & reported it to the Police.

He was rushed by ambulance to Barnes Hospital. They performed emergency exploratory surgery to make sure there was no internal bleeding or damage…thankfully there was none. They ran CT scans & X-rays among other tests. What they found was he has small bleed spots on the brain, 2 broken ribs, horrific road rash on both arms, shoulders & hands, severe lacerations on his thumb, hands are swollen/bruised, fractured left orbital bone and temporal bone, busted blood vessels in his eye & decreased vision. They had discussed transferring him to a Rehab facility for 3 weeks. Due to not having health coverage he was discharged on Sunday, June 20th.

He has a long, long road ahead of him in his healing process and recovery.

From the information they were able to put together this is what they think happened. The only ‘Road Closed’ sign was right behind the exit sign in an unlit area. He probably did not see the sign until it was too late & had to lay the bike down to avoid further injury or possible death. His Helmet saved his life.

On top of all of that, and to make a situation even more devastating, Angela and Gary do NOT have health coverage. They are trying to get assistance through Barnes, however, that takes time. In addition, they don't know what the outcome will be if and when they do get approved for anything.

They only have liability insurance on the motorcycle which is most likely totaled. The bike was towed by a contracted company for Woodriver, IL. That bill is currently over $800 for a bike that’s worth $1,000. They’re not allowed retrieve the battery charger, personal belongings or take pictures of the bike unless they pay the bill.

To say the Kupers have their hands full right now is an understatement. They are grateful Gary is ALIVE and will hopefully make a full recovery, however, they are extremely stressed and overwhelmed by everything & the expense of it all.

So I am asking you. Please. Donate something. Lets come together and help the Kupers in crisis. Let's make it a little less stressful for Gary and Angela. Anything helps. No amount is too small. You can even donate anonymously. Any donation is greatly appreciated!

As always please send positive vibes their way and keep them in your prayers as to these next several months are going to be challenging for them, to say the least.

Thank you ❤

Respectfully,

Cherie Boussum
