OUR SWEET GARY EARHART, September 2018
Most of you who know Gary are aware that he has battled Parkinson's Disease for the last 19 years, and 18 of those years he won that battle. This last year, we are sorry to say he has had a extreme decline in his health. In the last 3 months Gary has been in 3 different nursing homes and hospitalized 3 times. He is not able to stay in a nursing home because he needs more care and attention than they can offer. He is now unable to walk and having difficulty following commands, as his brain and body are disconnected. This is a real ugly face of this disease. The continual medical bills are insurmountable, as well as the prescriptions that are well over $1,800/month. We have liquidated every asset we had, our home , vehicles, and savings. Please know, this is incredibly hard for us to reach out for assistance. Also, please know we have exhausted every avenue for funding.
He needs to be in a small group home, where he can receive more one on one care and be in a 'home' environment. Group homes do not accept Medicare, and are private pay. We are walking in faith and humbly asking for your help. We were blessed to find a home that is 10 minutes away from Kathy, Brandy and the girls. Keeping Gary in this type of environment is our only option, as nursing homes and being at home are no longer safe. His quality of life during this stage is of utmost importance to our family.
Gary has always been the most wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, and most of all - one of the best friends anyone could ever have. His smile still can light up a room. He still prays out loud for people, and randomly surprises nurses, doctors and others with his charming wit. It is an honor to witness that despite Dad's rapid decline over the last several months, he remains kind, gentle and most of all still considered a BIG FLIRT.
