In 2023, DETENTION will create the final part of a trilogy and will cover the personal stories and experiences of members of the LGBT+ community who were affected by the controversial anti-gay legislation Section 28.

To accompany the future national theatre tour of DETENTION, 50 members of the LGBT+ community (who have been affected by Section 28) will have their portraits taken by acclaimed professional photographer David Severn, who is known for his striking and beautiful images of working-class Britain.

“The 50 Portraits exhibition will be presented in theatre foyers, gallery spaces, community centres and on-line and will be available to the general public for free. The exhibition is created to help deepen the context of the live show, raising awareness and visibility of this important benchmark and a new artistic collaboration.”   – Gary Clarke, Artistic Director

The overall cost of creating 50 Portraits, including photography fee, studio and equipment hire, framing costs, presentation and transportation is expected to be £5,000, which we are looking to raise from our friends and supporters among the dance, theatre and wider LGBT+ communities.

The arts (in particular live touring theatre) have been hit hard over the last 16 months, and as a project-funded company of freelancers with no regular funding or support, we need you to help us realise our ambition to create and present this important work.

If you would like to hear more, our Artistic Director, Gary Clarke explains more about the build-up to our new show DETENTION and what we are looking to achieve with 50 Portraits, in the video above.

Thanks so much for your support.
