Friends and family members of Brianna Perez and Roger Brown -- I am asking for your help! Brianna used to work for my office and I (along with all of my coworkers) quickly realized that she is not only the most kind and hardworking professional woman, but also the most dedicated family member, community member, mom, and wife. Anyone who knows Brianna knows that she always has a bright smile on her face and a warmth that reaches so many. Roger has dedicated his life to coaching and teaching kids and is a role model to many. Together, Brianna and Roger stand side-by-side as a committed family unit and, unfortunately, they have fallen on some tough times and need our help. They would never ask for financial help...they have only asked for your prayers...but we know that when tough times arise, the prayers cannot help with the finanial strain that bad news can bring.
Brianna and Roger were recently given scary news. Their beloved 5-year-old son, Garrett, was diagnosed on 10/11/16 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Garret started experiencing bone pain and the family has been in and out of the hospital trying to figure out what was wrong. Then, signs of abnormal cells in his blood work were detected.
Upon admission to the hospital, 90% of his bone marrow was taken over by leukemia cells and 13% of his peripheral blood were taken over by leukemia cells as well. Garrett will be spending his first month in the hospital where he has started chemotherapy. The doctors have told them that Garrett will be out of school for at least 6 month. Additionally, even if all of his leukemia is undetectable at any point in time, he will still have to do treatments for 3 years to ensure the leukemia doesn't come back.
Garrett has a very long road ahead of him and so do his parents. Brianna and Roger just had another son and Brianna just went back to work from maternity leave. Therefore, she has used all of her FMLA. As you can imagine, living at the hospital for the next month and then staying home with Garrett for 6 months after he comes home from the hospital will be extremely difficult for their finances.
