Because of hurricane Katrina the lower ninth ward is now a food dessert and people have to travel 20 minutes by car to get to the nearest supermarket, yet many do not have cars. We are raising money to sustain and protect the gardens in the lower ninth. The garden’s purpose is to teach people how to grow their own food and be self-sufficient.
