Melissa Garbincus Support Fund

We have all heard the saying “life can change in an instant.” This time, it hits close to home. In the fall of 2015, our dear friend Melissa went to a routine doctor appointment and left a couple of hours later with a probable diagnosis of breast cancer. The devastating diagnosis was confirmed through biopsy a couple of days later. Ever since, the day-to-day lives of Melissa, her husband Matt, and their precious children Evan and Avery have been turned upside. Fighting for one’s life suddenly becomes the number one task on the to-do list. In order to focus on treatment and her health, Melissa has had to give up many of the things that make her who she is: the driver of her Mom taxi getting Evan and Avery to school and activities; the nurse who so lovingly takes care of her patients; the wife and daughter who is selfless helping those around her that need it; the friend who is always there with a kind word and a huge. After 8 rounds of chemotherapy that have helped shrink the tumor, Melissa is ready to take the next step in her treatment. Due to the side effects of the chemo (exhaustion, pain, nausea, and much, much more), Melissa has been unable to work since she began treatment in November. Since her position is part-time PRN at night in order to enable her to be both Mom and nurse, something many of us can relate to, benefits are not part of the package. This call for help is coming at the exact moment that Melissa is going into surgery for a double mastectomy. The rest of her recovery will be long and hard, with additional surgeries down the road. While Melissa is putting in all of her energy into her health and healing and being there for her kids, and Matt is continuing to work and be a support to his wife and children, our friends need us to step in and help. We are asking for the helping hands in the community to reach out and consider making a donation to support the Garbincus Family during this difficult time. As you know, a cancer diagnosis creates a financial hardship due to income loss and costly treatments. No donation is too small, and will go a long way in making things a bit easier to manage. The Garbincus Family is so grateful for your thoughts, your prayers, and your support.

Sincerely and with gratitude,
Jackie Fisher & Silvia Jeras
