GanzoAyuda

Tax deductible
Many families in La Playa, Baja California Sur and surrounding areas are in need of food, basic supplies, medication and safety during the COVID-19 crisis.

The community of La Playa (where El Ganzo Centro Comunitario and Hotel El Ganzo are located) is amoung the most vulnerable communities in Los Cabos. The families in La Playa are hit disproportionately hard by COVID 19 as many live paycheck to paycheck and rely solely on the now temporarily non-existent tourism industry as their only source of income.

As of April 1st, 100% non-essential businesses are closed due to the federal government mandate and economic purposes - all hotels, tourism business, and public beaches, leaving zero opportunity for work or income for locals for months.

Many of these families are especially vulnerable to COVID 19, with entire families living in one- or few-room homes, without sufficient access or means to purchase food, medication, hygiene products, cleaning or protective supplies

Over 300 families will need our ongoing support.  Many families live in precarious conditions, some without a refrigerator or ice box to stock on food during the quarantine.

We have the responsibility to come together to support our community in this critical time of need.

FAQ

What will happen if you surpass your goal?

We’ve estimated that feeding and giving basic cleaning and medical products to the ~600 families of La Playa will cost us around $146,000 USD for 4 months. Once achieved, we will keep fundraising because we don’t know long this situation is going to last. Our goal is to be able to support the community for as long as they need and until we all go through this crisis. If the campaign proves hugely successful, beyond what is needed for the Community of La Playa, we will funnel the excess funds to the Baja California Sur Community Alliance who is leading food security for the rest of the state of Baja California Sur.

How will funds be used?

-92% of funds will go directly to purchasing food and supplies for the La Playa community.

-5% of funds, in the spirit of Ganzo, will be used to provide musical relief to the La Playa community and collaterally supporting local struggling musicians whose income has also been cut off by the pause in tourism due to the crisis. This will come in the form of free live music around the streets of La Playa (respecting social distancing guidelines) bringing hope and joy in these tough times, and in the form of music educational programs post-crisis sharing music with the children of La Playa through the El Ganzo Community Center.

-3% of funds will go directly to GoFundMe for card transaction fees.

-0% of funds will go towards paying for volunteers or employees to run this campaign. The entire team on the ground running the campaign is composed of El Ganzo Community Center volunteers and employees and consultants paid by Hotel El Ganzo’s payroll.

Why does this page say funds are going through Los Cabos Children’s Foundation?

Los Cabos Children’s Foundation is a 501c3 that was generous enough to help provide infrastructure to receive and direct funding to the project. All funding will be distributed as above.

What’s the timeline for the campaign?

NOW. There is no time to waste. The families need our support.  We will start delivering our food packages as soon as the first dollars come in. And we will  continue to do so on a bi-weekly basis until the crisis is over or we run out of funds.

Where can I follow the campaign and receive updates?

We will be updating here, although the best place to be informed of how everything unfolds is in our facebook page and our Instagram profile:

Hotel El Ganzo Instagram
El Ganzo Comunitario Facebook

Can I make a direct donation to the campaign, not through GoFundMe?
