The Campaign to Reopen the Gamma Iota Chapter House

Summer 2018 is another crossroads for the chapter.  Although we met the fundraising goal last year, we fell short on donated labor. 2017 witnessed some miracles as alumni successfully funded a new 50-year roof, installed a new porch railing, plumbing repairs/upgrades, new in-house advisor living quarters, new doors and trim for 2nd floor rooms, paint, chapter room ceiling repair, kitchen cabinet doors, the yearly insurance premium, and other miscellaneous and fixed costs.  Despite these efforts we did not reopen last year.

While the efforts of the alumni are substantial, the real heroes are the undergrads who have embraced our culture of academics, philanthropy, and brotherhood giving our chapter the foundation to build sustainable membership. Starting last fall with just 4 members they more than tripled their numbers to 13 and are on track to receive the Pyramid of Excellence award from Nationals. In addition, they have achieved the top academic house on campus in Spring 2018, completed Bike to Boise (raising $3200 for Hope House) and won every sorority philanthropy event they participated in. Because of their efforts with essentially one third the strength of a full house we are committed to get them back into the Old Castle and are asking the alumni for time and treasure this summer!

Now we have a chance to reopen the fall of 2018. The Construction Committee, including Matt Douglas, Nate McLean, Evan Wyke, Matt Guho, Matt Anderson and Scott Bunderson have worked tirelessly to set up a 4-day alumni reunion work party July 19 -22 to regain occupancy.  We are asking all skill levels to come back to campus and help with the July work party.  RSVP today at https://www.facebook.com/events/174992239878073/

It is also going to take treasure to make this happen.  $70,000 to be exact.  We are off to a great start as two alumni have anonymously pledged to match Alumni donations up to $35K ($30K & $5K respectively.)  The funds are currently in a trust and will be released once the rest of the alumni raise $35K+.

Alumni have already started donating on gofundme, https://www.gofundme.com/gamma-iota.  We’ve received generous donations from Jordan Anderson & Doug Anderson ($10,000 in Carpet), Dustin Lilya ($1000), Peter Thornton ($1000), Eric Pickett ($1000), Nate McLean ($1000), Robert Tunison ($1000), Vaughn Wasem ($500), and even former Dream Girls, Sarah Collyer and Teresa Ryther.  We need your help to obtain the critical match funds and provide a safe and secure living environment for our members!

Below is a budget of the needed repairs to open the house for Fall 2018. This is Phase One of a long-term project to bring our chapter house up to livable standards once again.

For those of you wishing to contribute via recurring donations every month please contact [email redacted] for further details.

Note:  We have set a deadline of July 22nd  to raise the needed $70,000.  If we do not meet this goal, the opening for Fall 2018 will not happen and we’ll be forced to wait until we raise the funds to open the chapter house.

When donating, please change the "TIP" amount that goes to GoFundMe to $1.  It will save you money.
