Hey friends and family, thanks for taking the time to read this.
As most of you already know- I have been fighting a long battle with a few mysterious medical conditions. I have finally been diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypertension causing pseudo tumor celebri. In layman's terms: my body makes too much spinal fluid- which builds up in my skull, putting pressure on my brain. That in turn is causing swelling in my optic nerve.
After meeting with my doctors and specialists (a whole bunch of them) I will have a ventricular perioteneal shunt inserted into my brain. This will be the first half of treatment. Although in the neurosurgery world this is a routine procedure- it will still knock me out of work for about 3 weeks, plus additional follow ups. If I am super lucky- this will heal my body of all symptoms. I have been advised that it is fairly likely that I will be dealing with the second half of treatment.
From there I will meet with my eye surgeon and they will do an optical nerve fenestration. Where they go behind my eyes and "poke holes" in the back of my optic nerve to release pressure- which again will knock me out of work again for a few weeks.
I am reaching out to ask for help to make this process a bit easier on my family. I am surrounded by love and support, but the most terrifying thing is missing so much work/income.
Anything that you are willing to share with our family, we will be eternally grateful.
