Gallery House x Playground Coffee Shop

DGT Foundation is the non-profit charitable arm of DGT Alumni Association. It provides Gallery House, an internship for undergraduates in art and design fields, offering experiential learning in curating, marketing and promoting a fine arts exhibit that itself benefits a charity chosen by the participating students each semester. This semester our exhibit is titled “Mishap(py) Accidents”

Things go awry for various reasons. It might be the hundredth mishap, or maybe it’s the first. We are encouraging artists to channel these mistakes into their artwork, to embrace and misuse tools. Through which they may find new ways of working and gain a deeper appreciation for their practice. This show will feature work that highlights these happy accidents, whether intentional or otherwise. In light of our current situation, we are hosting Gallery House’s first digital exhibition. 

Our beneficiary this year is Playground Coffee Shop, a coffee shop and community space off of Bedford Avenue in Bed-Stuy. Playground Coffee Shop was founded by Zenat Begum in 2016 and has since become much more than just a coffee shop. Playground Annex was started in 2018, a section within Playground Coffee Shop that houses radical and alternative literature for readers, and in that same year, Playground Youth was also created out of demand for more community outreach. Playground Youth works to meet the needs of the community through the maintenance of community fridges and other service oriented projects.

All donations from the digital exhibition will go towards our beneficiary organization, Playground Coffee Shop (Annex and Youth).
