Galia's Tuition Fund
Hi there! I'm Galia and I am raising money to help pay for my tuition for college. I'm in my 3rd year in the Bachelor of Film and Media Production at Humber College in Toronto.
I'm originally from Mexico City and my love for acting brought me to Canada. I fell in love with the people and the culture in such a way that ever since I've tried to fully immigrate. I'm 2 years away from finishing my degree and have realized more and more how much I love the film industry and how bad I want to be part of it; whether it is in front or behind the camera or maybe both, who knows... I'm still chasing my dream of becoming a permanent resident and the first step in order to do that is finishing my degree.
I work as an International Student Ambassador helping other International Students who have just moved to Canada and are new to the college experience and living abroad some of them for the first time in their lives, I love helping them and providing the help I wish I had when I first moved here. I also volunteer as a Peer Mentor providing guidance to first-semester international students which helps them get involved more in the community.
I get some hours from working but not nearly enough to be able to support myself and I am supported by my family, they help a lot but unfortunately it is not enough.
It is vital for me to find a way to continue and stay in school since my immigration status is tied to my study permit and my ability to work in Canada which helps me support myself.
The tuition per semester is $8126.50, which is the international fee, so far I've been able to come up with $2000 CAD and from now until the end of the semester I will be able to get $2000 CAD more but will be short $4500 for the Fall semester. In November I will also need to pay $1000 CAD deposit for the Winter semester.
I've been reaching out to several people and departments on campus and have applied for some scholarships that are available but the options are very slim since I am an International student and unfortunately we are not offered the same financial aid.
I will need to pay the remaining balance by the first week in December.
I will be so thankful if you could help me continue my education here in Canada and my hopes for the future.
