As many of you know, my dad was in a severe head on collision on his way to work in October.
A driver crossed the double lines to attempt to pass a tractor trailer and instantly collided with my dad, which totalled his Dodge Challenger and left him with life changing injuries. My dad was immediatly sent to INOVA Fairfax from Leesburg via helicopter. The other driver passed away on the scene.
My dad's severe injuries include, fractured sternum and kneecap, broken left hip, broken left femur, and two very shatterd ankles. He's had multiple surgeries so far, including a plate put in his hip, rod put in his femur, and external fixators on his ankle. In the coming months, he is to have more surgeries to fuse his right ankle due to the immense damage.
He's been such a trooper and has remained positive in despite of his intense pain and 2 week stay in the hospital. He also spent one week at the Mt. Vernon Rehab Center.
The extents of his injuries will bar him from putting weight on his left leg for at least 12 more weeks. His right leg will remain without having weight put on it for another 4-6 months. With the help of the wonderful Physical Therapists, he will have to learn how to walk again.
My AWESOME uncles and other family members installed an insane ramp to the front of the house so my dad could wheel in and out on his wheelchair to stay comfortably back at home. He will also require a lot of visits to a physical therapist and occupational therapist for the forseeable future.
Thanks to everyone that's already fed us, watched our dogs Otto and Rylee, and have been there to support us along the way through this traumatic event. All of these unexpected expenses have really started to take effect on our family, especially since my dad is the sole caretaker of our home. Without him at work and having already dissipated many of our funds, I'm asking for any sort of donation, of any amount, would really help us cope with this journey we are on. I truly appreciate any and all the support we get. We have an amazing support system around us with all of the Regis family and friends.
