Nóirín Ní Bhraoin - Ceannaire Tionscadail

Bronnadh an Séala Eorpach Teanga 2019 ar an tionscadal Labhair Gaeilge Liom.

De réir tuairiscí ar an nGaeilge le déanaí, ceann de na fáthanna nach labhrann cainteoirí Gaeilge an teanga lena chéile is ea nach n-aithníonn siad a chéile go héasca.

Thástálamar   an hipitéis seo le triail choicíse i ndeich gcinn de shiopaí i mBaile Átha Cliath ina raibh cainteoirí Gaeilge ag obair. Le linn na coicíse chaith oibrithe suaitheantas  a raibh  ‘Labhair Gaeilge Liom’ scríofa air. Choimeádadar taifead ar líon na gcustaiméirí a labhair Gaeilge leo thar an dá sheachtain. Is é an toradh a fuaireadar ná gur labhair ó dhuine amháin go seachtar Gaeilge leo gach lá.

Tá cainteoirí Gaeilge i ngach cearn den domhan anois. Chinn foireann an tionscadail ar aip a fhorbairt le caoi a sholáthar do chainteoirí Gaeilge cumarsáid a bheith acu lena chéile. Chuireadar suirbhé ar Survey Monkey lena fháil amach ar shuim le cainteoirí Gaeilge a leithéid d’aip agus cad é ar mhaith leo go soláthródh an aip dóibh. Tháinig freagraí ar an suirbhé ó chainteoirí ar fud an domhain, agus is é an toradh ná  ’Ar aghaidh leis an Aip’.  Chomh maith le sin fuaireamar go leor moltaí úsáideacha maidir lena bhféadfaí a dhéanamh leis an aip.

Líon isteach an suirbhé ar  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3HHTZVF le do thoil)

Tá an teicneolaíocht againn leis an aip a fhorbairt. Níl uainn anois ach

Cuir cairde, daoine muintire agus comhghleacaithe ar an eolas faoi seo, le do thoil.

Noreen Breen - Project Leader

The Labhair Gaeilge Liom project was awarded the European Language Label Award 2019.

Recent reports on the Irish Language suggest that one of the reasons that Irish speakers do not readily speak with each other in Irish is that they cannot easily identify each other.

We tested this hypothesis by conducting a two week trial in ten Dublin shops where Irish speakers were identified. During the two week trial the workers  wore a badge saying ‘Labhair Gaeilge Liom’. They recorded the number of customers that spoke to them in Irish over the two weeks. They found that from one to seven people spoke to them in Irish on a daily basis.

Irish speakers now live in all corners of the globe. The project team decided to develop an app that would afford those  Irish speakers the opportunity to communicate with each other. The team placed a survey on Survey Monkey to establish  if Irish speakers would be interested in such an app and what they would wish that app to provide for them. Irish speakers from around the world have responded to the survey and the result is a resounding “yes” to the app. We also got many useful suggestions about what the app might include. ( Please complete the survey on  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3HHTZVF )

We have the technology to develop the app.  All we need now is the funding to proceed with its development.
