Gaby's Cancer Treatments

Donation protected
My niece Gabriela Hovhannisyan is 12 years old. She was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma on Thursday, October 19.

She is a beautiful and smart, half-Polish and half-Armenian little girl who is at risk of not living to see her 13th birthday this January 4.

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of sarcoma. Sarcoma is cancer of soft tissue (such as muscle), connective tissue (such as tendon or cartilage), or bone.  Gaby has been diagnosed with bone marrow sarcoma – this is extremely rare. As a point of reference, fewer than 1,000 cases are reported per year in the entire United States.

Gaby’s initial batch of doctors (Poland has national healthcare) told us that her entire hand and likely her arm up to her elbow must be removed and that she must undergo chemotherapy.

However, they warned that the types of available chemo in Poland are simply inadequate to address her rare form of cancer and therefore they gave her just months to live.

Since the diagnosis, Gaby’s mom, Marta, has either traveled to see or spoken with every single oncologist in Poland that treats children. Generally, she was given the same prognosis: the cancer is so rare… we don’t have the chemo required to treat Gaby…

We have found an angel in Dr. Krzysztof Majdylo at the St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Dr. Majdylo has agreed to treat Gaby and perform the surgery on her hand and arm, but her only hope is for him to work in conjunction with his colleagues in Germany, where those doctors will be able to administer the correct type of chemotherapy so that her cancer will not grow and spread.

The estimated cost for Gaby’s chemotherapy treatments are in the range of $30,000.

Poland’s national health plan will not cover virtually any of the costs associated with Gaby’s chemotherapy as the treatments will be provided in Germany.

We are begging you to help Gaby with her medical costs. She must begin treatments NOW or she will not survive.

Even a couple of dollars will help.

Please help us save her.

Please note that the funds collected will be transferred to my Bank of America account and I will thereafter immediately transfer them to Gaby's parent’s bank account in Poland. We initially had intended to transfer the funds directly from Go Fund Me to Dr. Majdylo's clinic but the transfer of funds to Europe is significantly more complicated on this platform and we want Gaby to receive the funds immediately.
