The Purnell's Fight Against Cancer

The Purnell’s Fight With Cancer:

Imagine you are a 33 year old woman named Kathy with 2 daughters from a previous marriage. You meet the man that you are destined to be with for the rest of your life. You date, you marry and you find out you are pregnant when you are 34 years old. You and your family are overjoyed at the news. Then you find out that your baby will have Down Syndrome. With that comes the questions. What are you going to do? Are you going to keep it? What kind of life will your baby have? Those questions are put to rest really easily by the Purnell’s simply saying “This is our life. This is our baby. This is our precious gift from God and we will love her regardless.” And that is exactly what they do. Through Sierra’s short 6 years on this Earth, she has had to have countless surgeries. From tonsil removal to open heart surgery.  Through all of this, the Purnell’s stuck it out together. Now Sierra is a vibrant, smiley 6 year old with her family wrapped around her little fingers.

Now that Sierra is healthy (most of the time), its Dad’s time. He is diagnosed with a chronic disease. They go through the necessary treatment, which makes him very sick but he sticks it through. This sickness goes on for months before he finally feels like doing his normal activities. His normal activities include taking care of the house and the children. He doesn’t get to go to work every day like the rest of us because of a back injury he sustained during work. So on top of this nagging back injury, he has this chronic disease that he will have to live with for the rest of his life.

So here we are today. You are now a 41 year woman. You have 3 daughters who are all special in their own ways. You have a great husband/father. You drive 45 mins to work, one way, each day of the week just to make ends meet for your family. You live paycheck to paycheck due to all the medical bills and just because of life in general. However, you never give up. You do this day after day. You stay strong because you have too. Because everything else around you seems to be falling apart, so you need to be strong. Then the day comes. You don’t feel like yourself anymore. You go to the dr. They run a lot of tests. Then the call happens. The one where they want you to come in and see them. They tell you that you have a “golf ball” size cancerous tumor on your colon. You have to have surgery asap to remove this. It may be the kind that spreads so the sooner the better. Now suddenly, you are the one who needs help. You can no longer be strong for anyone else because now you are the one who is sick.  Now not only do you wonder how you are going to survive this but you wonder how your family is going to survive when you are the only income. So you do all you can do and you put it in God’s hands.

Now imagine, you are the friend(s). Sitting here wondering how you can help this sweet person. We can and will pray for her and her sweet family but we need to be able to do more. We need to make sure Kathy can focus on recovering rather than if their bills are being paid. We can do this for her. We can make this one really really bad situation a little better by just giving a little money to her and her family.

Please consider this for the Purnells. Please help us help them. If you are not in a position to give, then please pray.

Thank you.
