On Sept 14, 2018, the world lost a great father of three young boys, a loving husband, a son, a brother and friend to everyone.  If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting Mike Gabriel, you would know he was a kind, gentle soul.

Mike’s battle with cancer began in April 2009, at the age of 38.  On a typical weekday evening, the Gabriel families’ life was turned upside down when Mike suffered a Gran Mal Seizure while home alone with the three boys.  After several doctors’ appointments, Mike was diagnosed with Stage 3 Brain Cancer.  Countless phone calls and research led them to Mayo Clinic, in Minnesota to have the majority of this first tumor removed.

Their fate changed in July 2012, just 3 months short of being eligible for life insurance, when Mike’s second tumor was discovered.  Several treatments were discussed, and they were again back to making unthinkable, life changing decisions.  Mike was a part of clinical trials and received treatment for this new, more aggressive tumor, for over two years.  The location of this tumor caused him to lose function of the left side of his body, robbing his ability to perform daily tasks such as walking, showering, driving, eating, and most importantly playing with his kids.  Mike was then forced to take, what was inevitably, a permeant leave from work.

Under Hospice care for the last 2 years, Mike’s condition slowly deteriorated.  Mike battled like a champion against this devastating disease for 9 long years, giving him the nickname of “Iron Man Mike”.  One can only admire how strong and determined he was, but unfortunately, the cancer finally took his life.

Given the fact that Mike didn’t have life insurance and the collective financial strain of this situation, a GoFundMe Account is being established to assist with funeral costs.  The remaining money will be used to establish College 529 Savings Funds for Jonah (15), Brayden (13) & Trevin (11).

Mike will forever remain in our hearts and will be missed dearly because of the positive impact he has had on all our lives.  The hope is that you can find it in your heart to help secure the family’s future.  Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
