On August 26th 2017 Gabrielle (Gabby) overdosed. She had a heart attack and showed signs of possibe strokes. She was initially on a ventilator in ICU and unable to breathe on her own. She also sustained a serious brain injury.
As of 9 am on 8/30/17, Gabby started breathing on her own. Her doctor stated the heart had repaired itself and her liver was trending towards repair and her kidneys were good. He did not see sight damage but that's not to say there is none. She began responding to pain. Dr Wendell was very hopeful for Gabbys recovery. To what degree she will recover, the family is unsure but at the moment they are clinging to hope.
As of 9/2/2017 Gabby was able to open her eyes but thats about it. She had no awareness or comprehension. She wouldn't track or follow the slightest command. A trach was inserted along with a peg tube for feedings.
The family is currently looking at nursing homes that will accept her on a ventilator and monitor brain activity. If she doesn't make any progress in 8 weeks the family must then make a decision about withdrawl of life.
This is without a doubt, as you can imagine a decsion no parent should ever have to make....
This gofundme page was started by friends and with the permission of the family to help raise funds to help support the family with the following:
-Medical expenses (uncovered bills are already rolling in)
-Travel expenses
-Possible end of life care and funeral costs
-Loss of wages (mom is a teacher)
-If Gabby survives and is able to leave the ICU she will require 24 hour care in an institution and a substantial amount of rehabilitation.
-Misc expenses that mom is too overwhelmed to consider right now.
Anything helps, even a dollar.
Gabby is a beautiful young lady who lit up a room with her smile and presence. She is so very loved and missed by her family. Please consider helping to ease their financial burderns so they can focus on being there for Gabby in all the ways she needs them right now.
